  • OH MY GOSH IT'S FINALLY OVER

This one started out as a complete do-over for the channel's identity. New format, new subject matter, new year, new me. But over time I started to realise I was chucking the baby out with the bathwater, and went back to some of my older production habits. An obvious example would be the presentation, I initially wanted to do the entire thing in voiceover, but clip selection is hard and stuff like the intros to all the sections was really hard to do, so I ended up bringing back the VRChat segments with my avatar, I think they work okay here but next time I'll be writing the scripts with that and all the other lessons learnt from this in mind. Because yeah this may be one of the longest amount of time I've spent on a video since the beat saber retrospective last year, definitely don't want to repeat that (which also probably goes for the video length itself, this one ballooned to 20+ minutes but I'm personally much more comfortable around the 10-15 minute range)

As for the content of the video, there are some sections I think turned out quite well, others I think needed some more time in the oven and some I just kinda don't like, but I'd already done 3 different drafts of the script by that point and wanted to just get this out and done before the summer was even further behind us than it already is.

I do want to return to some of these topics at length (most notably Hot Wheels World Race), but have a bunch of other ideas brewing that I'll probably focused on first. If there's a good thing to come out of the pivot away from being a VR Channel, it's that I now have so many ideas for stuff I wanna talk about that I have to keep a list of them all, whereas before I often struggled to come up with anything I even wanted to talk about.

Going forwards I mainly want to talk about games that are underrepresented on youtube, mostly arcade stuff. There'll probably be some consistent through-lines between all of them but each will hopefully stand on its own. I am a bit scared about how the mighty algorithm will treat the pivot, but I guess we'll wait and see when the actual good videos come out (I have very low expectations for this one, but you never know with this kind of thing)

As always, thanks for watching my weird little projects and take care!

  • And now for the music used:

  • 02:25 Music Select (standard) - Beatmania IIDX 31 Epolis
  • 03:56 Vapor City - Hot Wheels World Race
  • 05:17 今度は - 16-Bit Sensation Another Layer (watched this series after I'd already locked in the stuff I'd be featuring in this video but it is INSANELY good, spoiler warning the entire thing is just a massive anti-ai hitpiece and it is GLORIOUS)
